COVID19 Safety protocol

COVID19 Safety measures

Expeditions in themselves require a sound and sophisticated risk management. With a global pandemic, there is another challenge adding up. However, safety and quality have always been paramount at Infinity Expeditions and it is our goal to keep it that way. In the last few months, a COVID19 safety & hygiene protocol was developed, which provides maximum safety on the basis of state regulations and with many additional aspects, such as our own rapid tests for our expeditions in China, Nepal and Pakistan and the base camp as a closed bubble. In this way, we can guarantee a safe expedition for the participants and our employees alike.

Before the expedition

  • Covid19 cancellation conditions: 100% refund, if we can’t run a trip
We bear 100% of the risk if we as a tour operator have to cancel a trip before its start due to a COVID19-related cancellation. If the expedition has to be cancelled before its start due to COVID19 measures through us as an operator, participants will be given the option of a free rebooking with price guarantee to the next year or a 100% refund of the travel price. This applies when:

    • the country of origin has issued a travel ban,
    • the country of destination (such as Nepal, Tibet or Pakistan) has issued an entry ban,
    • no mountaineering permits are issued or
    • it is not possible to carry out the expedition in a reasonable manner (e.g. 14 days of quarantine on arrival)
  • Please note that we would like to point out that a Covid-19 illness of a participant (either before, during or after the trip) is NOT covered by our comprehensive cancellation protection and, like any other illnesses/injury, must be covered by a personal trip cancellation and interruption insurance.
  • Adjusting insurance coverage
In order to be well protected, we recommend a travel insurance that includes COVID19 and covers the medical expenses. We recommend the Signature Travel Insurance from Global Rescue/IMG. Please have the COVID19 coverage confirmed in writing by any insurance you wish to take out – including the one recommended by us!
  • All-inclusive package before departure
An excellent service quality is key to us. And it’s crucial to us to maintain this quality level even in times of a global pandemic. In addition to the standard information regarding our expedition, we will also keep you individually informed about the regulations on departure, entry, and the airlines. In order for you to be perfectly prepared for your adventure.
  • Employee training
In the destination countries we work with long-standing partners and employees, whom we can fully trust. These employees are introduced to and trained in the safety protocol and the hygiene measures before the expedition starts. This way, we can ensure that the Sherpas, the kitchen team and our porters deal with this additional challenge in a first-class and professional manner as well.

On expedition/arrival to the base camp

  • Compliance with the applicable government rules
Naturally, compliance with the current COVID19 regulations of the individual countries forms the base of our security protocol.
  • Expedition doctor
Our Everest expedition is accompanied by an expedition doctor who will not only carry out the rapid tests, but also guarantees a well-founded initial medical treatment in case of an infection and any other health concerns (such as Altitude problems,…).
  • Hygiene measures during travelling
While travelling to basecamp, the following hygiene measures apply:

    • Minimum distance of 1 meter or the obligation to wear a mask (e.g. in cars)
    • For single travelers we do strongly recommend booking single rooms
    • All transfers are in own vehicles, which get disinfected regularly
    • Regular hand disinfection is recommended – the necessary means will be available
  • Review of measures
The responsible expedition leader or mountain guide will regularly review and, if necessary, demand compliance with the safety protocol and hygiene measures.

In base camp and beyond

  • Individual tents
Individual tents are available to all participants and employees in base camp (and ABC on Everest).
  • Hygiene rules
The hygiene rules do also apply in the camps:

    • A minimum distance of one meter or wearing a mask if not possible
    • Regular hand washing/disinfecting, especially before/after a stay in the group, dining, toilet and shower tent
    • Sufficient hot water and soap or Disinfectant will be provided
